Plate Heat Exchanger (PHE) is a highly efficient and compact heat exchange equipment, which is widely used in industries, HVAC systems, chemical industry, food processing, pharmaceuticals and other fields. It realizes heat transfer between hot and cold media through indirect heat exchange of fluids between multiple
metal plates, and has good heat exchange performance.
Working Principle of Plate Heat Exchanger
The structure of plate heat exchanger consists of a series of closely arranged metal plates, each of which has several flow channels. Hot and cold media flow through adjacent flow channels respectively, and the plates are sealed by gaskets. Hot fluid and cold fluid are arranged alternately, usually the hot fluid and the cold fluid flow relative to each other, and the plate surface transfers heat from the hot fluid to the cold fluid through heat conduction.
Specifically, the working principle of plate heat exchanger is as follows:
1. Hot fluid and cold fluid flow along different flow channels, but there is no direct contact between the fluids.
2. Heat is transferred from hot fluid to cold fluid through plates.
3. Hot fluid is cooled by lowering the temperature, and cold fluid is heated by increasing the temperature.
Characteristics of plate heat exchangers
1. High-efficiency heat exchange performance: Due to the turbulent flow of the fluid, there are more flow layers and better heat exchange effect.
2. Compact structure: Compared with the traditional shell and tube heat exchanger, the plate heat exchanger has a smaller volume and higher heat exchange efficiency, which is particularly suitable for places with limited space.
3. Adjustability: The plate heat exchanger can adjust the heat exchange area by increasing or decreasing the number of plates to adapt to different working conditions and needs.
4. Easy to clean: The plate heat exchanger is relatively easy to disassemble and clean, and is particularly suitable for occasions that require regular cleaning (such as the food processing industry).
5. Strong adaptability: It can be used for heat exchange of a variety of fluids, including liquid,
gas and gas-liquid two-phase fluid heat exchange.
Composition of plate heat exchanger
• Heat exchange plate: It is the core part of the plate heat exchanger, usually made of
stainless steel or other high thermal conductivity materials. Each plate has corrugations to increase the turbulence of the flow and improve the heat exchange effect.
• Gasket: Located on the contact surface of the plate, used to seal the flow channel to prevent fluid leakage. Gaskets are usually made of rubber or polymer materials, and high temperature and corrosion resistant types can be selected.
• Frame and clamping device: The supporting structure of the entire plate heat exchanger plays the role of fixing and clamping the plates to ensure the sealing between the plates and the efficiency of heat exchange.
• Inlet and outlet pipes: Pipes used to connect the fluid in and out of the heat exchanger.
Advantages of plate heat exchangers
1. High heat exchange efficiency: Its structural design can form turbulent flow, which enhances the conduction efficiency of heat exchange.
3. Adapt to a variety of media: Suitable for liquid-liquid, gas-liquid, liquid-gas and other types of heat exchange.
4. Easy to expand: Increasing the number of plates can easily expand the heat exchange capacity without replacing the entire equipment.
5. Energy saving and environmental protection: While improving heat exchange efficiency, it can effectively reduce energy consumption.
Types
• Fixed plate heat exchanger: The plates are fixed, suitable for stable working environment.
• Removable plate heat exchanger: It can be disassembled and cleaned, suitable for processes that require frequent cleaning.
